You know how some gifts just hit different? My sister Patty stopped by last weekend with what she called "a little something" — and honestly, I almost cried right there in my kitchen.
I've been so stressed about the holidays this year. Between finishing up the quilt for my granddaughter Emma and trying to plan Christmas dinner for fifteen people (yes, fifteen!), I've been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Patty knows me too well.
She handed me this beautiful McCormick Christmas Gift Set, and I just stood there looking at it. It's got all these gorgeous little spice jars — cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, all the good stuff — packaged up so pretty with a recipe booklet inside. She said she saw it at the store and thought of me immediately because she knows I always complain about running out of cinnamon right when I need it most.
The thing is, it's not even really about the spices (though they smell AMAZING — I already opened the cinnamon, couldn't help myself). It's that she saw something and thought of me. That's the whole point of gift-giving, isn't it? I already know what I'm making with these — my mama's gingerbread cookies that I haven't made in probably five years because I never have all the spices on hand.
I'm actually thinking about getting a couple of these for my craft circle friends. We do a little gift exchange every December, and this would be perfect for Janet who's always baking something for church events. Way better than another candle, right?
Anyway, just had to share because it really made my whole week. Sometimes the simple things are the best things. Now I need to get back to that quilt — Emma's birthday is December 10th and I am BEHIND.
Happy crafting, everyone! 🧵

Oh Linda, what a thoughtful sister you have! I saw those gift sets at Target last week but wasn't sure about them. Now I might have to go back and grab a few. That gingerbread cookie idea is making me hungry lol
This is exactly the kind of thing my daughter-in-law would love. She just got into baking this past year. Do you remember how much it was?
Susan — I asked Patty and she said around $15 I think? Not bad at all for how nice the packaging is. Your daughter-in-law would definitely appreciate it!
Good luck with that quilt! I remember when you posted about starting it back in September. Can't wait to see the finished project. And yes, those spice sets are so much better than candles — I might steal that idea for my book club gift exchange!
The part about your mama's gingerbread cookies got me 😭 I haven't made my grandmother's pfeffernusse in years for the same reason. Maybe this is my sign to finally do it this Christmas.
